    Good news: Crime is down in Oakley overall.

     

    CRC Report

    Jalisa informed us the hallways and main room were repainted; doors to be repainted soon. Floors were cleaned and bathrooms will be deep cleaned as well.

    “Trunk or Treat” – 10/27 at the Oakley Recreation Center from 5:30-7:30PM. Looking for vendors, families and businesses to reserve spots in the event to hand out candy to over 250 families.

    Stormwater Management Utility of GCWW – Eric Saylor

    Work to collect and control stormwater in order to prevent floods. $12 million worth of work needed over the next 5 years. No rate increase in 5 years, however, in June 2018, City Council passed a 4-year rate increase; 65% of residents will see their bills increase from $3.54/month to $7.34/month over the course of the next 4 years.

     

    Mashed Roots Latin Kitchen – Guillermo Vidal – Plans and Concept

    3361 Madison Road - previous A Forkable Feast location. Planning for spring 2019 opening. 24 shared spots in the back of the building and 6 metered spots out front for all tenants. Short 10 parking spots since they will be ‘changing the use’ of the property. Zoning hearing scheduled for 10/31, but may be postponed since they haven’t heard from the Zoning Department recently. Asking for a letter of support for parking variance.

    OCC did not have a quorum, so OCC plans to vote on this item on 10/18.

    Community Budget Requests

    Proposal/requests submitted by OMP Committees; requests due by the end of the month.

    OCC requests: (1) New Oakley recreation center; (2) Madison Road dog park enhancements (while partnering with Boulevard Apartments in Oakley Station); (3) street scape/traffic calming measures on Madison Road near and around neighborhood business district.

    Motion by Jason Wilcoxon to submit the above list of OCC Requests in order of priority; seconded by Joe Groh. Unanimous approval. Jes Overley will coordinate with Colleen Reynolds to send letter to City outlining requests.

     

    December OCC Election (12/4/18)

    To be eligible to serve as an OCC Board of Trustee, a person must have been an OCC member for at least sixty (60) days prior to the election of OCC Board of Trustees (membership deadline 10/5/18) and must have attended at least three (3) organizational meetings within the current calendar year.

     

    Goodwill Expansion

    Commercial real estate agent reached out to OCC Trustee informing OCC of Goodwill’s interested in purchasing the former David Millet space to expand their business. We have no other information at this time, but will continue to monitor the situation.

    The Cincinnati Fire Department is encouraging the public to sign up for Smart 911, an emergency communications tool that provides 9-1-1 call takers and first responders with additional critical information about participating residents.

    This technology helps reduce response times and provide first responders with vital information that can help improve incident outcomes.

    Information such as medical conditions to blood type to primary language can be place in user's Safety Profile as well as a Facility Profile about their current location.

    Citizens can sign up for Smart 911 by going to www.Smart911. com. Remember no one plans to call 9-1-1 but now you can plan ahead.

    Cincinnati Fire Department  Open House Day

    On Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the Cincinnati Fire Department will open its 26 fire stations to the public. The Cincinnati Fire Department's "Open House Day" will be a great time for children and adults to learn fire safety and about the Cincinnati Fire Department in general. To attend children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Refreshments will be served.

    Landscaping Initiatives – Cody Gausvik

    Cody worked with City contacts regarding landscape responsibilities. Tree beds are property/business owner’s responsibility, NOT the City’s. Cody suggested using a portion of the second round of NBD funds to clean up tree beds and landscaping along Madison for this year and launch beautification campaign next year (spring 2019) to help business owners maintain our neighborhood business district. Jason Wilcoxon to get bid for landscape cleanup of all tree wells on Madison before winter. If you notice any missing trees in Oakley, email Cody and he will add it to his list for the Urban Forestry.

    OCC Board of Trustees Action Regarding Personnel

    Jes Overly issued a statement regarding the outcomes following the special session that took place on 6/5/18. Following the 6/5/18 special session, Dave Schaff was censured and Chris Mucha was removed from the OCC Board of Trustees.

    Cincinnati Neighborhood Games – Dan Krohn & Rob Wetterstroem

    Oakley won 13 medals total: 6 gold; 4 silver; 3 bronze. Dan announced each of those who received medals. Special thanks to Craig Rosen, Jes Overly, Sean Fausto and Karen Floyd for bringing their kids and friends to games to participate.

    Oakley Community Council Connection Electronic Newsletter – Dan Krohn

    First OCC Connection Newsletter issued 8/1; this will be published monthly. Next edition will be sent out on 8/30. The OCC Connection Newsletter creates additional OCC membership benefit, additional communication benefit, expands on more issues and conversation, reminds everyone of upcoming meetings and events, etc.  

    Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance – Laksh Khurana – OHIO PACE Program

    “Efficient Financing for Building Efficiency” PACE financing offers commercial property owners the opportunity to leverage property assessment financing to pay for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. It is designed to assist commercial property owners with access to affordable, extended-term financing for energy-related projects for their buildings.

    Approve 6/5/18 Meeting Minutes

    Motion to approve 6/5/18 meeting minutes with the amendment to clarify the OCC moved to special meeting on 6/5/18 by Evan Nolan; seconded by Dan Krohn. 7 approved; Dave and Stacy abstained. 6/5/18 minutes approved.

    OCC Additional Landscaping Approval

    OCC approved of $2500 expense for landscaping from NBD fund in June; need approval for additional $1750 to clean and weed tree beds along Madison.

    Cody Gausvik motioned to approve $1750 for additional landscape work; Evan Nolan seconded.

    OCC hasn’t received second round of NBD money from City; no support to pay for additional landscaping work. Cody plans to do research to see if City will clean and weed beds; Colleen Reynolds to send Cody contact information for someone at the City who can assist.

    Cody Gausvik motions to table motion regarding additional landscape work until after OCC has a chance to research and speak with some contacts at the City.

    June and July OCC financial approval is tabled until the next meeting since Jason Wilcoxon was absent during the meeting.

    Craig Rozen – suggestion to move speaker cards to the beginning of the meeting; encourages everyone to offer help to homeless people in our city before calling the police.

    Smoothie King Drive thru approved for Oakley Station. Steve suggested we send OCC agenda to City Planning Department for assistance going forward when we oppose a development.

    Follow up with City Planning about Heritage Apartment complex and their responsibilities for nearby landscape (Evan Nolan). Heritage was a planned development and Craig Rozen will look for emails that stated such. Gary Heflin from Courtesy Automotive offering to maintain landscape island in front of former Maribelle’s; Gary to bring landscape proposal to next meeting.

    Oakley sign on Paxton was removed and never replaced.

    OCC to create list of items OCC supports for the upcoming budget review meetings. (Oakley Rec Center is a priority for OCC – Colleen to send around draft of what OCC will push at budget meetings)

    Motion by Dave Schaff for Oakley Community Council to reaffirm our support to fund a new Oakley Recreation Center that serves Hyde Park, Mount Lookout and Oakley, furthermore, that the existing funding that has been earmarked be protected. Seconded by Evan Nolan. 9 approvals; motion passes; Colleen Reynolds abstained.

    Motion by Dave Schaff for Oakley Community Council to support prioritizing funding for NSP, NBD and NBDIP. Seconded by Evan Nolan. 9 approvals; motion passes; Colleen Reynolds abstains.

    Last month, Crossroads weeded/installed new flower beds and cleaned up multiple areas throughout our neighborhood. Special thanks to all volunteers!

Cincinnati Circus will also be there along with the option to purchase MadTree beer. Volunteers are still needed – Stacy Lehman to send board volunteer needs.

    Oakley Community Council Electronic Newsletter – Dan Krohn

    Dan Krohn proposes launching an electronic monthly newsletter as an additional membership benefit to OCC members. Included in the newsletter: upcoming event dates; dates for upcoming OCC meetings. Dan Krohn volunteers to help keep us on time and assist with writing newsletter. 8/1/18 is the planned launch date.     Open OCC Trustee Position

    Dan Krohn and Seth Shaifer were given the opportunity to address the OCC Trustees about their interest regarding the open OCC Trustee position. Anyone interested in filling the vacant spot needs to send their bios to board@oakleynow.com before 5/1/18.

    Library Levy – May 8th – Special Election – Chris Oaks (Branch Manager at Oakley Library)

    60% increase in attendance in the past two decades; Library state budget cut 26% since 2000.

    Levy would cost >$3/month per $100,000 of property – would make libraries handicap accessible and includes other various updates.  

    Pedestrian Safety Improvements – OMP Safety & Traffic Working Group

    In order of priority needing crosswalk improvements: crosswalk over Madison near Maribelle’s and tea house; crossing Madison near Flags USA and NBD parking lot; and crossing Wasson at Michigan, connecting Hyde Park and Oakley.  

    Suggestion to write to your elected officials and tell them how important pedestrian safety is to you.

    Jason Wilcoxon motions to approve lists proposed by the Oakley Master Plan Steering Committee for crosswalk improvements; Colleen Reynolds seconded. Unanimous approval; motion passes.   

    Transportation Initiatives – Todd Portune (Hamilton County Commissioner)

    Supports “regional funding mechanism” for public transportation. Supports a 3 state/8 counties initiative that would be regionally funded. We need one transportation authority, not several small transit authorities. FC Cincinnati must decide on stadium location by 5/31, otherwise, Hamilton County Commissioners will not allocate money towards 1,000 car parking garage.

    FC Cincinnati CBA Discussion and Speaker Cards

    FC Cincinnati Stadium Sub-Committee will be created and will work towards gathering input and finalizing Oakley CBA. Evan Nolan created a draft for a legally binding community benefits agreement between “FCC”, “FCC Stadium Developer”, “the City of Cincinnati”, “Hamilton County”, “Greater Cincinnati Redevelopment Authority” and “the Oakley Community Council”. Oakley traffic study draft from Bayer Becker was provided to OCC. 4/12/18 – Oakley town hall at MadTree at 7pm to discuss and address questions surrounding traffic study draft.
